  • Preliminary application must be completed through Kansas Works, 200 Arco Place, Independence, KS.  Kansas Works forwards application to Human Resource Department.  Human Resources logs in application and forwards a copy to Sheriff Office.
  • Application is reviewed by SO administration and detailed application mailed to applicant.  Background investigation is conducted and references are checked.
  • If background and references are satisfactory, physical agility testing date set and Doctor’s Release and Accident Waiver are mailed to applicant with notification of PT test date.
  • Upon passing of physical agility test, interview is scheduled with interview board. 
  • Hiring decision is made following interview process.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office

Montgomery County Jail

  • Detention Officer
    • Summary:  Officer works directly with the inmates of the Montgomery County Jail and are responsible for the supervision and care of the inmates.  They are also responsible for the security of the facility, other inmates and staff.  The Detention Officers will also assist with other duties within the Montgomery County Jail.
      • Pay Scale = $10.00 - $10.75
    • Education and Experience:  High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and one to three months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must posses the ability to use and/or learn to use the departmental computer system before the probationary period ends.
